Personal Philosophy of Classroom Management Essay Example for Free

Personal Philosophy of Classroom Management Essay Classroom Management is an essential element in implementing a successful learning environment for students. A teacher who implements a classroom management plan will control student’s misbehavior so that all students will be focused on the lessons being taught in the classroom. Below is an annotated list of points that I believe in concerning my view of classroom management. 1. How teacher should act: * Enthusiastic- A teacher should show enthusiasm when she is teaching the lessons. The teacher needs to show that she is excited about teaching the lessons so that the students will stay interested in listening and understanding the subject area content. * Respectful- The teacher should treat students with respect and also demand respect. She should never use fowl language, inappropriate behavior, share too much personal information or act in ways that are not ethical. * Role Model- A teacher should act as a role model to her students. The teacher should not do anything that would jeopardize her career as a teacher that would make her students look down upon her. She also must live a life that students look up to so they will remember that teacher forever. * Patiently- A teacher must exhibit patience in class. Every student learns at different paces and at different levels. A teacher must be willing to be patient if the students are not grasping the information. She should explain the information to the students until they finally understand the lesson 2. How students are expected to behave: * Respectful- Students are to be respectful towards the teacher and to each other. Students should show respect to the teacher by not talking when the teacher is instructing the class. The students should show respect to each other by not hitting each other, making fun of another, or taking one’s personal belongings. * On Task-Students should stay on task in class. Students should be focused on the teacher’s lessons and instructions. They should not be wandering off getting off task. If the students are off task, they will not understand the lessons or remember what happened in class. Also the teacher will have to go back and teach the lesson again which can cause the teacher to be off target teaching the curriculum and it will result in student’s receiving poor test scores. * Appropriately Well Behaved- Students should be well behaved in class. It is important for students to understand the importance of good behavior. If students are well behaved in the classroom, the teacher can spend more time instructing the students than time spent on behavioral issues. In a well behaved classroom, students are able to learn effectively. * Academically Prepared- Students are to come to school academically prepared. The students should complete their homework assignment each day in order to make sure they understand the subjects that are being taught. They should always come prepared to listen to the subject matter, offer their opinions, and ask god questions in class. 3. What the classroom might look and feel like: * Engaging- The classroom should look and feel engaging to the student. In the classroom, the teacher can arrange the classroom that promotes student interaction and group collaboration. Students should be seated in a circle or horseshoe shape that maximizes the amount of eye contact students can have with each other. * Clean and Organized Classroom- A teacher’s classroom should be clean and organized. The school supplies should be neatly organized and in a safe place where students can safely access the supplies. * Filled with student’s work- The classroom should be filled with student’s work on projects. The students will feel comfortable and engaged if what they are learning in class will be showcased in the classroom. The student can look around the room and be reminded to always do their best on their assignments. This also sends a message to students that their work and learning is important. * Student Centered The classroom should be focused on the students. In the student centered classroom, you will find workstations that promote group activities such as puzzles or brainteasers that promote student collaboration. 4. How the teacher helps students conduct themselves properly: * Demonstrating the Rules- The teacher should teach, review, and practice rules form beginning of school till the end of school. The teacher should also let students demonstrate good behaviors and bad behaviors so that students will understand how to follow the rules and to have good behavior in class. * Reinforce positive behavior with Incentives- A teacher can help students conduct themselves properly by providing incentives through positive behavior. A student who exhibits positive behavior weekly will pick a price out of the treasure chest. This will result in students with bad behavior to act better if they see students winning cool prizes. * Student and Parent Contracts- To ensure students are behaving properly, student and parent contracts are sent home for parents and students to sign. This contract outlines what is expected from the student’s behavior, academics, and the parent’s commitment in the child’s education. This will be very helpful in helping the students have good behavior in class. * Character Education Mini Lessons tied to Curriculum- Teachers can tie in the classroom rules and good behavioral skills as mini-lessons. Before teaching the lessons, the teacher can discuss how to treat others, how to walk quietly in the halls, and do not talk while others are talking. By having these mini lessons on how students should behave will remind them of how to have good behavior in class. 5. What the teacher should do about misbehavior: * Cues- Teachers uses a cue or a simple verbal reprimand to redirect a student’s focus which eliminates the inappropriate behavior. A teacher can also praise the efforts of students with good behavior which can reduce the misbehavior among the other students. * Consequences such as loss of recess- If a student keeps misbehaving, the teacher can use the consequence of loss recess. The majority of students like to go to recess. If the student knows their punishment by loss of recess due to their misbehavior, their behavior will improve. * Private conference with student- If the student still misbehaves, the teacher will need to talk with the student. The teacher will inform the student that his or her misbehavior will not be tolerated in class and his or her parents will be contacted if the misbehavior continues. * Contact parent- A teacher should contact the parents if the student keeps misbehaving in class. If the teacher lets the parents know how their child behaves in class, then the parents can also talk to the child and discipline them at home. 6. How students should be taught and what is expected of them: * Post rules in the classroom- Teachers can post rules in the classroom so that students can be reminded each day of how to properly behave in class. Also the teacher can give quizzes to students about the poster rules throughout the year. * Clear articulation and communication in the syllabus- Teachers should communicate clearly about what is expected of student’s assignments and their behavior in class. For example, informing students to always do their best on their work or their handwriting must be neat on all of their assignments should be clearly communicated. Creating a syllabus will also inform students of when their assignments are due.

Caffeine is a Psycoactive Drug Essay -- essays research papers fc

Have you ever been so tired that you’ve dozed off at work? Or tried to stop yourself from falling asleep while you’re driving or even worse – got caught sleeping in class? These instances could have been prevented by doing what 90% of Americans do every day – by consuming CAFFEINE. If anyone here feels you can’t make it though your day without a cup of coffee, you are probably addicted to it (I’ll discuss more on that later). Here’s an interesting fact: both words caffeine and coffee are derived from the Arabic word â€Å"QAHWEH.† The origins of the words reflect the spread of the beverage into Europe through Arabia and Turkey from North-East Africa. Coffee began to be very popular in Europe in the 17th century and today it’s the most popular psychoactive drug in the world. Almost everyone in our society today uses caffeine regularly, in one form or another. According to Jennifer Warner of WebMD Medical News, nearly 90% of adults and 76% of children drink some kind of caffeinated beverage every day. More than half of all American adults consume more than 3 cups of coffee. Also, a 1994 survey by the Agriculture Department found that on average, 64 gallons of soda are consumed by children and teenagers every year. Researchers have found that soft drinks have surpassed tea as the second leading source of caffeine for adults while being the top source of caffeine for children. People are not only getting their caffeine from coffee, soda and tea, but from other sources such as energy beverages, caffeinated water, herbal supplements and chocolate. You may not realize how much caffeine you are consuming on a daily basis because caffeine is not listed as an ingredient on the food or drink label, and the Nutrition Facts label does not show how much caffeine is i n the product. In addition, beverages marketed as high-energy drinks may contain more than one type of caffeine extract, and in herbal sources, caffeine may not be listed as an active ingredient. So you can see why half of American adults consume more than 300mg of caffeine per day. All you need to consume to get that amount are just 2 mugs of coffee and a couple of cookies. If you sit down and calculate your caffeine consumption during a typical day, you may be surprised. Many people consume a gram or more of caffeine every day and don’t even realize it. Now that the widespread u... ...nd the globe, is a mild drug stimulant, has the potential to become addicting and gives people the opportunity to be social. The bottom line is that caffeine is the most widely accepted and legal way to get that all important energy boost. So, the next time you down that can of Red Bull or take that last sip of cappuccino from Starbucks, take comfort in the fact that you’re getting your fix legally Works Cited †¢ Bealer, Bonnie K., and Bennet A. Following directions Essay

â€Å"BOOM! â€Å"sounded off as a little red car hit an 18 wheeler. The owner of the little red car was devastated when he noticed the damage done to his car. He was lost for words. The police officer at the scene said â€Å"Sir calm down †¦ you should have stopped at the stop sign.† The owner of the little red car learned to pay attention & follow directions. It is important to follow directions at all times especially when you’re pregnant, preparing food, and doing an autopsy. Following instructions is very vital when it comes to pregnancy because there’s a life at risk. If you don’t take proper precautions, you may have a miscarriage. If you drink or smoke while pregnant, your baby may have life threatening problems. No mother should have to go through this & it’d occur less often if they would follow directions. When preparing food, it is extra crucial to follow the directions on the recipe. Because if you don’t, your food wont taste right. And if you don’t cook anything that is defrosted all the way through then you might get food poisoning. But if you would have follow directions, you wouldn’t have to worry about those consequences & you can enjoy your food. Following instructions is also very vital when building a house. If you mess up one measurement, the whole house won’t have a solid foundation. If you measure something inaccurately, your house may fall in. If you don’t use tape to paint your house then your lines won’t be straight & they’ll be all over the place. Now had you followed directions, there would be no reason to worry about these consequences. To sum it all up, following directions is very important so you won’t have to worry about the consequences. It is very important to follow directions in life, because without directions, and the ability to obey the given instructions, many unnecessary or unwarranted side effects may occur. This is a basic tenant of not only professional and school life, but everyday life as well.

Human Traffickers Use Social Obligation - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 5 Words: 1373 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/04/22 Category Society Essay Level High school Tags: Human Trafficking Essay Did you like this example? I am the type of person to think everyones nice until proven otherwise. My sister is the same way as well and it makes my mom call us nave or innocent. Id like to believe that what I think is true, but unfortunately not. The other day I was walking through one of the busiest streets in New York city in Times Square and every time someone bumped into ME I apologized. My friend that was a native of the city was like what are you doing apologizing? this is NYC. I took that and really thought deep into it. For some reason that really grasped onto my mind. I thought to myself, how do I know if I am being too nice? or when should I stop before I realize someones taking advantage of me? I have always struggled with this my entire life and it definitely could lead to putting myself in danger. The podcast project that I had to complete for my social psychology course touched base on social etiquette and social obligations people face every day of their lives. Social etiquette is a code of behavior that sets the expectation for social behavior based on the norms within society, social class or a group. To boil it down this is when you feel like you need to interact with someone because society says you should. It really helped me think about situations I have been in that I never really thought about before. There are many circumstances that social obligations could lead us too even something as scary as human trafficking. According to the National Human Trafficking Hotline, this year they have had 14,117 calls and 5,147 cases reported so far. They are many warning signs and targets for victims who can be lured into this. An employer can walk up to someone anywhere at a mall, grocery store and public attractions and offer things that just seem too good to be true and get a person under untrue pretenses. This is where my personable character and my sisters friendliness can be dangerous because if I were in this situation and someone came up to me and tried to strike a conversation, I would usually respond to them. Id like to describe myself as a social butterfly. I can talk to anyone about almost anything! There have been multiple occasions if I am shopping at a mall people have come up to me and tried to recruit me for various things and I have actually stopped to talk to them. Now, after doing all this research it seems dangerous and after the news I hear all the time of people going missing it usually starts off as something like this. Human traffickers use social obligations and psychological tactics to obtain an individual. Most of the public is not aware that people who traffic have a low-risk of getting caught and a very high reward once the task is completed. Sometimes the obligations we feel to engage with people and to not seem rude can be used against us. Human trafficking is a business when freedom is stolen from someone for profit (Human Trafficking, 2018). In human trafficking, when a trafficker goes to take someone they often will use social obligations against us. Instead of using physical violence to ensure they wont attract attention from bystanders or law enforcement they use psychological tactics. Some of these tactics consist of dehumanization, distrusting of other people, keeping a close watch on their victims, and even threatening them (Withers, 2016). The traffickers understand that people do not want to be seen as rude and in turn and may use that to their advantage to remove people from public areas. This can create an easier way to take them away. Sometimes its not a big scheme but instead just something as simple as offering you water. Most people feel at least obligated to take it, and with some light pressure, you could get a person to drink it. These tactics are critical and used almost every day and every time to ensure a trafficker has reached success in doing what they need to do. These exploiters usually target younger boys and girls since they demonstrate more vulnerab ility. This can be through social media, school, shopping malls, playgrounds etc. (Riley, 2016). A tactic they use is to gain their trust and perhaps be that person a child desires to have in their life. Once the trust is established the manipulation begins. I was reading this article on CNNs website written by Brad Riley and he mentioned that a human trafficker can be have 5 disguises. A pretender, provider, promiser, protector and punisher (Riley, 2016). All these words are self-explanatory, however when I read the article it made so much more sense how these psychological tactics are used to capture someone. The forced labor and human trafficking industry is worth about $150 billion. When people get trafficked they can be forced and used for multiple things. Sex and labor are the most common reasons people can get trafficked for. According to a website called the polarisproject.org, 75% of the people who get trafficked are women and girls (Human Trafficking, 2018). The websi te also states that 49,000 cases have been reported over the past ten years and their hotline receives approximately 150 calls per day (Human Trafficking, 2018). People who have been or still are victims of human trafficking need additional assistance that they may not reach out for. It is important for us as humans to know what indicators can be present for a person who may need help. Each individual can have different signs and some may not express red flags at all. Victims can show abnormal behavior such as being tense, experiencing paranoia, fear and even lack of hygiene (Human Trafficking, 2018). When a person is constantly being monitored and not in control of their own finances, barely has any personal possessions and not speaking for themselves that shows a huge sign that something is not right. Our social obligations as individuals in society can make us do things because we are compelled too. For example, if a friend gives you a present on your birthday, you are mor e probable to give one in return on their birthday. Social obligations and etiquette changes with time. Some things our grandparents and parents feel like are social obligations may not be as crucial to our generation as a social obligation. In our podcast we also touched base on personal experiences where social obligations got the best of us. My group member Kasey mentioned how whenever she is grocery shopping or pumping her gas she always runs into people or groups that ask for donations or trying to sell a product. Kasey said she always felt guilty saying no and I could totally relate to that feeling. In this situation, it is also not right to just stand there and ignore them because they are humans too. Every day we encounter situations like this and feeling cornered or pressured into something because of the fact that we do not want to be rude and walk away. It can lead to feeling awkward and uncomfortable. These situations do not just arise from strangers, but often come from people that we know, which can make it even worse. We tried incorporating and thinking of tips to help people respectfully get out of these awkward situations we may encounter or even if we are in a hurry and do not really have the time to have a conversation. The seven words- Ill have to let you go now can help wind-up a conversation without hesitation. This is one of the best strategies we talked about because when you use that line you are not making up an excuse to exit the conversation. Social obligations and etiquette is something that is very crucial to our lives. It can make our lives easier but also just as hard and awkward. Additionally, human trafficking is one of the biggest hidden crimes and our social obligations could lead us to scary incidents like this when it is used against us. It is not 100% avoidable, but using the simple expression I have to let you go now can help conclude a conversation much easier without feeling offensive. Don’t waste time!
